San Francisco and Marseille, Feb. 27. Unistellar and its revolutionary consumer telescope are bringing the wonders of outer space to SXSW, the world’s largest gathering of creative professionals. As the only space-related project selected for the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards, Unistellar is committed to show how everyone can contribute to a better understanding of our universe through this unique citizen-astronomy project.
Thanks to its unique light-accumulation technology, the Unistellar eVscope is one hundred times more powerful than standard telescopes. This allows it to take popular astronomy to a level never seen before by finally revealing galaxies, nebulae, comets, and much more, in unparalleled crisp and colorful detail.
But the Unistellar eVscope is about more than observing the hidden wonders of the Universe. In partnership with the SETI Institute, this smart, easy-to-use telescope allows users to join a unique citizen-science community where anyone can view special astronomical events in real time while they participate in scientific observation campaigns.
“Unistellar’s ambition is to democratize astronomy, which to us means revealing the mysterious beauty of galaxies and other distant objects, but also allowing each of us to feel the thrill of scientific discovery by creating a worldwide citizen-astronomy network,” explains Laurent Marfisi, Unistellar’s CEO. “Thanks to the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards, the world’s most creative minds will be able to join us in this unique scientific endeavor.”
SXSW attendees will have the opportunity to discover Unistellar’s citizen-astronomy program, a worldwide community that is already a reality thanks to more than 2,000 preordered eVscopes. “Exoplanets, planetary defense, transient events, and more—Unistellar eVscope users will have the opportunity, thanks to our partnership with the SETI Institute, to contribute to the observation of special astronomical events, providing data that will lead to new findings and discoveries,” explains Dr. Franck Marchis, Chief Scientific Officer at Unistellar and Senior Astronomer at the SETI Institute.
Unistellar will be visible on multiple occasions during SXSW. On March 9, Unistellar will exhibit at the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards Finalist Showcase, in booth 2213. On March 10-13, attendees will be able to meet the Unistellar team on the Business France-La French Tech pavilion at the SXSW tradeshow, in booth 203.
In addition to its presence at SXSW, Unistellar will also make galaxies and nebulae visible from downtown Austin. eVscope night demonstrations will take place on March 9 and 10 (check our Facebook page for more details) so that SXSW attendees and Austin bystanders can enjoy the stunning beauty of our universe.
Created in 2015, Unistellar is a start-up that makes a revolutionarily powerful digital consumer telescope, the first of its kind to reveal galaxies, nebulae, comets, and much more, in unparalleled crisp and colorful detail. This smart, easy-to-use device allows anyone to contribute to science while observing the hidden wonders of the Universe.
The project raised more than $3 million through crowdfunding. More than 2,000 people have already pre-ordered a Unistellar eVscope.
